Teeth and Gums Can Reveal Your Overall Health

The condition of your teeth and gums can signal problems in your overall health, according to an article by the Times Herald-Record. The article also quotes Dr. Bruce Weiner, AACD Member in Middletown, NY. Dr. Weiner says that in addition to dental exams, he reviews his patients’ medical history and medications, citing the “oral systemic connection.” Such an exam could display manifestations of systemic diseases—like mono, blood diseases, vitamin deficiencies and even metabolic disorders like diabetes. The Debate Over Fluoride

The also article cites a CDC statistic, which says that every $1 invested in fluoridation saves about $38 in dental treatment costs. Some of the article’s comments are mixed.
